Press release from Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Wed, 1 Dec 2010 Source: --

The Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) found it repugnant,

irritating and deeply insulting, that the Vice President John Mahama would once

again found it necessary to attack the dignity of Jerry John Rawlings.

FONKAR take offense to the reckless, cold-hearted and egocentric effusions by

vice President John Mahama at Tein Conference in Winneba over the weekend that

former President Rawlings is not doing the NDC any good by his comments. He

wandered how the party and the government could trumpet its achievements if

leading members continue to describe ministers and government appointees as

“Greedy Bastards” and “Team B’, among others.

What is John Mahama talking about? That the government has achieved so much and

that the achievements have been overshadowed by the pronouncements of Jerry John

Rawlings? His comment is tantamount to foolhardiness and he must be told in no

uncertain terms.

FONKAR wanders why the Vice President of the republic will display such

indiscipline in a forum that was supposed to address indiscipline in the rank

and file of the NDC. To suggest that President Rawlings must not criticize the

administration because of politics of expediency is just unheard off.

President Rawlings made the famous ‘greedy bastards’ comment as a result of

certain characters around the president who have turned the “Better Ghana

Agenda” into “Better Stomach Agenda” and are surviving on their ability to

facilitate access to purgatory. We expect John Mahama to have known better.

Casting insinuations and innuendoes at Jerry John Rawlings in such a manner

smacks of indiscipline at the highest level.

The politics of attrition going on in both government and the party has taken a

new turn and John Mahama is at the height of that. The decimation and total

obliteration of the Rawlings legacy have been a long awaited dream of the likes

of John Mahama. FONKAR is not unaware of the machinations going on to ridicule

and discredit the former President.

For someone like John Mahama who has consistently shown gross indiscipline

towards Jerry John Rawlings to lament over indiscipline in the party is just

revolting. We wander what moral authority he has to preach indiscipline when he

himself is indiscipline to the core.

We want to make it crystal clear to John Mahama and his likes that President

Rawlings was able to hold the PNDC/NDC together for 19 years because he was

mentally competent, morally upright, a strict disciplinarian and was able to

stamp his personality on governance as well as reined in his undisciplined

appointees as and when necessary. Can we say the same of the Mills

administration? We wander.

We urge former President Jerry John Rawlings to display uncommon resilience in

the face of the unwarranted provocation that has been occasioned by these

unsavory politicians who are behaving like kindergarten kids fighting over

lollies.

We in the FONKAR are not just going to sit down and fold our arms and groaned,

moaned and lament like Jeremiah of the old Testaments while Jerry John Rawlings

is consistently humiliated by nonentities he projected into fame.

We want to caution the President and his lieutenants to perish the thought of

usurping the legacy of Jerry Rawlings because we are prepared to lay our lives

down to resist any attempt by John Mahama and his cohorts to usurp and destroy

the legacy of Jerry John Rawlings. We will stand up and speak our mind when the

occasion presents itself.

John Mahama must be told that these intrigues will not promote discipline and

unity in the party but will rather increase the cynicism and the antagonism. We

will perish together; if we fail in our effort to grate the scabbed-wound and

apply the right medication.

The dishonesty is just disgusting.

Signed

Dela Coffie (Communications Director)
