Accra, May 27 2005 (Joy Online) -- Pressure continue to mount on president Kufuor to tell Ghanaians about whether or not he played any role in the transactions that changed the ownership of a hotel complex next to his private residence.

Government officials insist that the hotel was bought by the president?s son without the involvement of his father.

A statement issued by the Chief of Staff at the Presidency also denied suggestions that the President?s son fronted for his father.

A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr Nick Amponsah has joined the call by several groups and individuals for an independent inquiry in the purchase of a hotel complex.

? For a leadership, which is trusted to be truthful to its word on transparency, accountability and forthcoming. In fact these are some of the things in time past, that people were not happy about in previous regimes,? he says.

He says such regimes were not forthcoming to address issues of this nature.

Dr Amponsah says it is difficult to come by such leadership that demonstrated confidence and faith in the people.

? Most people tend not to rely on the statements by the President?s functionaries. We have all heard what the parties in the transactions have said, so what is new, we need the President?s position on this,? he says.
