Pressure grows on Kwasi Appiah to resign from Ghana FA Executive Council

There is growing pressure on Sudan national team head coach, Kwasi Appiah, to resign from his role as an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over a massive case of potential conflict of interest.

Appiah's dual roles as the national team coach of Sudan and an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association have come under scrutiny after Ghana was paired against Sudan for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Thursday's draw held in South Africa.

This means the former Ghana international must pursue a course of action to defeat Ghana—the very country in which he wields influence as a member of the powerful 12-member Executive Council, the second-highest decision-making body of football in the West African country.

Indeed, there have been growing calls for the former Ghana captain and coach to resign from his role on the Executive Council after he landed the job as Sudan's national team coach.

But Kwasi Appiah rejected these calls and has tried to combine both roles. Indeed, sources from Ghana's leading football website, GHANAsoccernet.com, say Kwesi Appiah has been unable to be active at Executive Council meetings due to his tight schedule.

With the Black Stars now set to battle the Falcons of Jediane for a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco, calls for his resignation from the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association are becoming louder and more widespread—and rightly so, it has been argued.

Those arguing for his resignation point to the fact that Kwasi Appiah will not be able to attend Executive Council meetings to plan and plot the downfall of Sudan—as he is the same person managing the opponents Ghana seeks to outsmart in the race for Africa's flagship tournament next year.

It appears Kwasi Appiah's role at the GFA is now, more than ever, untenable as it flies in the face of a clear conflict of interest.

It is unquestionably illogical for the Sudan gaffer to stay on as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association under the current circumstances.

Despite his heavy schedule with the Sudan national team, Kwasi Appiah is also a member of Asante Kotoko's Interim Management Committee.
