Prestea/Huni Valley MP wins NPP ticket

Bogoso (W/R), Sept. 6, GNA - Mr Albert Kwaku Obbin, incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Prestea/Huni-Valley Constituency has been re-elected by acclamation by 154 Polling Station Chairmen and Executive Members of the Constituency at Bogoso to contest Election 2004 on the ticket of the Party.

The Wassa West District Directorate of Electoral Commission (EC) supervised the election.

Mr Peter Mac Manu, Western Regional Chairman of NPP, in an address said after a four-year term in office, there was the need to take stock of ones tenure of office and to plead with the people to renew the mandate of the MP and re-elect him for another term.

He explained that when nomination was opened, two contestants, Mr Obbin and Mr Plange Kay filed their nominations but Mr Kay was dropped during vetting.

He said in the last election NPP polled 19,131 votes as against 12,240 for National Democratic Congress (NDC) adding, "this time help us to win by a larger margin".

Mr MacManu said NPP understood that power rested with the people and could not win it through intimidation.

Mr Obbin said the NPP used the first term to lay a solid foundation on which sustainable human resource development would be built for accelerated economic advancement.

He said NPP is was a family, which cut across ethnic barriers and called on the people to join it for the development of the country. Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, challenged those who lost at the NPP primaries to throw their weight behind those who won to portray the beauty of democracy, which the NPP stood for.

Mr Kojo Acquah, Western Regional NPP Organiser, told the Polling Station Chairmen that the ultimate victory of the party depended on them.
