Kumasi, Aug 25, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor was on Monday given a rousing welcome by the people of Kumasi when he toured the metropolis as part of his official visit to the Ashanti Region.
The ecstatic crowd that had massed on the streets to catch a glimpse of the President wildly cheered, danced and shouted, "Asieho, Asieho", the election slogan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as his convoy drove past.
So huge was the crowd that at the business areas of Adum, Kejetia and Dr Mensah, the convoy virtually had to travel at a snail pace. The President stood in an open car to respond to the thunderous cheers, waving back in acknowledgement of the warm and infectious welcome.
As part of his tour of Kumasi, he would inaugurate a number of projects, including a newly installed Alcatel Telephone Switch, a Radiotherapy Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), streetlights at Aboabo and a Social Investment Fund (SIF) project at Asem.
He would also interact with mechanics at the Suame Magazine, transport bodies, the Chief Imam and Muslims and address a durbar at the Jackson Park.
