Prison Service picks farmer award in Ayawaso West

Prisons are noted for locking up people and waiting on government but the James Camp Prison is cutting an exemplary course.

The James Camp Prison located at Kawokudi in Nima on Friday picked up an award as the best farming based institution at the Ayawaso West Farmers day celebration.

DSP Edward Bugre picked the prize which included a poly tank.

A citation that accompanied their award read: “the James Camp Prison is actively involved in agricultural activities in the field of crop production, fish farming and other animal production.

They have several rabbits, 500 poultry birds, goats, 1200 fish stock in 3 pounds and 59 pigs.

The Prison trains inmates in rabbitory and have two greenhouses for crop production.”

In all, 10 awards were presented to individuals, groups and institution at the maiden farmers Day award in Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly.

The overall best farmer award went to Mr. Kwadwo Addo a 47 year old vegetable farmer.

The theme for this years farmers Day is: Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development.

The MCE for the area Hon. Sandrah Ahinkorah presented the awards to the overall best farmers in addition to a sword of office.
