Over 15,000 artisans at Suame Magazine in the Ashanti Region have reportedly been asked to vacate following a court order.
According to a post shared by GHOne TV on X on Thursday, May 9, 2024, a private developer has been granted a court order to evict the artisans from a section of the popular industrial area in Kumasi, which houses many workshops for metal engineering and vehicle repairs.
The post was accompanied by a video of the affected artisans taking to the streets to express their displeasure and seek government intervention.
One of the leaders of the artisans, who indicated he was a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), appealed to the NPP's 2024 flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for assistance.
"My wish is that the Vice President himself would intervene. He should come down here and meet the people here because wherever he goes, he always meets the artisans and talks to them to understand their problems, grievances, and how to move them forward.
"... I'm urging the Regional Minister, everybody, to intervene. This issue should not be about politics, it is about us getting money to feed our family," he said.
