Barekese(Ash), Aug 26, - Mr Isaac K. Adjei-Mensah, Minister of Works and Housing, said today that the privatization of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC) will be handled with absolute sensitivity and care. ''The government will ensure that the privatization of GWSC does not (rpt not) adversely affect the quality of water,'' he told workers of the Barekese headworks during an official visit to the Ashanti region today. The expansion works, expected to boost water supply to Kumasi and its outlying communities from 12 million gallons to 18 million gallons a day, is financed by the British government at a cost of six million pounds sterling. Mr Adjei-Mensah said a technical committee to critically examine effective ways of carrying out the privatization has been set up. The minister, therefore, asked the workers not to have any cause for over anxiety. Mr Adjei-Mensah expressed satisfaction that the expansion works at the Barekese headworks were on course. The project, started last year, is scheduled to be completed in February, next year. The minister later inspected the Obuasi water system under improvement by Bi-Water, a British company.
