Produce Buying Company assists New Tweapease

New Tweapease (E/R), Sept 19, GNA - The Produce Buying Company (PBC) Limited has presented a cheque for 11 million cedis to the people of New Tweapease, a farming community in the Birim North District, to purchase low tension poles for their electrification project.

The financial assistance was in appreciation of its sale of 4,000 bags of cocoa beans to the company last cocoa season.

Presenting the cheque on Friday the Eastern Regional Manager of PBC, Mr Stephen Yeboah, said the purchase enabled the Nkawkaw District of the PBC to become the highest cocoa purchasing district in the region.

The New Tweapease Society was adjudged the highest cocoa purchasing society among the 700 societies in the region.

He said due to the high cocoa production in the Nkawkaw District, a new district office would be opened for the area with Okoase as its headquarters to ensure adequate supply of inputs to the farmers. Mr Yeboah advised the farmers to adopt the high-tech programme of production and ensure that their farms were sprayed under the mass cocoa spraying exercise.

He commended the various settler communities made up of Gas, Akuapems, Ewes, Kwahus and Akyems for leaving peacefully in the area and assured them of PBC's support for farmers who sell their produce to the company.

The chairman of the Electrification Committee, Mr Matthew Amam, said the farming communities including Omanekrom, Okrakrom, Obobetwao, Ahafo, Otuoku and Akwante and New Tweapease would need 120 low tension electricity poles to complete the project and appealed to the Birim North District Assembly, NGOs and benevolent societies for assistance.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the communities, the chief of New Tweapease, Nee Lantei Awua 11, thanked the PBC for the assistance and appealed for a tractor to collect gravels to rehabilitate a number of feeder roads to ensure the evacuation of cocoa and other foodstuffs to the marketing centres.
