Professor Adu-Gyamfi elected new GMA President

Kumasi, Nov. 9, GNA - Professor Yaw Adu-Gyamfi of the Ghana Medical School, Korle-Bu, has been elected the new President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

This was at the Association's 45th Annual General Meeting held in Kumasi.

Other officers elected included Dr Francis Adu-Ababio, lecturer at the University of Ghana Dental School, Vice President, Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), General Secretary and Dr Victor Dadjoe, KATH, Assistant General Secretary.

The rest are Dr Rhoda Manu, Maamobi Polyclinic, Accra, Treasurer, Dr Mariana Taylor, Central Hospital, Koforidua, National Executive Member, and Dr Oheneba-Danso, KATH, National Executive Member.

Professor Adu-Ghamfi in his acceptance address asked the government to take practical steps to improve the conditions of service of health professionals to stem the brain drain, which is a major and serious threat to the health of the people.

It should also do everything possible to ensure smooth and successful implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Professor Adu-Gyamfi called on members of the Association to support the new executive to enable the association to continue to grow in strength. Mr Paul Adu-Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Bar Association, swore the newly elected GMA Executives into office.
