The Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has appointed Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah as the new Vice Chancellor of the tertiary institution.
The appointment was made on Saturday, July 30 at the University Council’s Special Meeting.
Prof Ghartey Ampiah, the Provost of the College of Education Studies, will take over from Prof Domwini Dabire Kuupole, whose tenure ends Friday, September 30, 2016. The incoming VC holds a PhD in Science Education.
He is a Professor of Science Education and current Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Cape Coast in Ghana.
He was Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana in 2012.
He was a Visiting Professor at the Centre for the Study of International Cooperation in Education, Hiroshima University in 2006 and Famous Overseas Scholar, Hunan City University, China in 2012.
He is on the International Advisory Board of the Compare Journal in the UK and a member of The British Association for International and Comparative Education, Ghana Chemical Society and Ghana Science Association.
He is also a member of the National Teaching Council in Ghana. He is interested in research in education especially at the primary and secondary school levels.
He led the DFID funded CREATE project to research into educational access, transition and equity in Ghana from 2006-2011.
He has worked on many international projects with researchers from Africa, Japan, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and the USA.
