Wa, Sept 7, GNA - The Rev Prof Abraham Berinyuu, Dean in-charge of the Wa Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has appealed to the government and other relevant institutions to appreciate research work.
He said the non-appreciation of research work had contributed to Ghana's under-development.
Prof Berinyuu was addressing the 5th UDS Annual Inter-Faculty Lectures (IFL) Series in Wa on Tuesday and in attendance were academia from the various faculties in UDS and other research institutions in the country.
He appealed to institutions of higher learning to make research an integral part of their academic work and come out with quality research findings to support and address Ghana's development challenges.
Prof Berinyuu said the UDS was poised to generate more research findings to impact on issues that affect the people and help improve their living conditions.
He said it was the aim of the university authorities to move UDS from a good university to an excellent one through research findings as well as the quality of its graduates.
Dr. Seidu Al-hassan, Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and Inter-Disciplinary Research (CCEIR), said the Centre had established links with local and governmental agencies as well as international organisations to help support research programmes at the University.
He said the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) had approved a proposal from the Centre and would soon release funds for staff capacity building towards enhanced UDS graduate programmes.
The Centre has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Foundation for Human Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) and would soon sign one with Ghana Institute of Literacy Bible Translation (GILBT) towards improving staff capacity enhancement.
