Accra, June 28, GNA - Alhaji Alhasan Bene, General Secretary of the Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE), on Monday dispelled the notion that the Party's electoral alliance with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been abrogated.
"The National Delegates' Congress of the Party would review the electoral pact under the banner of the Progressive Alliance at its July Congress, as well as the Grand Coalition agenda," Alhaji Bene told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Accra.
He said the alliance was formed in 1996 to mobilise and win elections for common presidential and parliamentary candidates.
"Now the Delegates' Congress would analyse current political developments and decide on the fate of the Progressive Alliance."
Alhaji Bene, however, admitted that the alliance had been dormant after the last elections, "but officially it has not been abrogated".
The EGLE General Secretary called on Ghanaians to guard against provocative utterances as the nation geared up for the Election 2004. He called on the people to vote out the New Patriotic Party, saying the economic problems facing the country were the result of the ruling Party's bad administration.
The Government, he said, must be condemned for poor physical infrastructure development all over the country.
Alhaji Bene also cautioned the Government against adopting tricks to win the polls, saying electoral disputes had been the cause of many civil wars in West Africa.
"Ghana should not be allowed to go down the same road," he cautioned, adding that the clamour for peaceful transition should be a shared responsibility with the Government bearing greater responsibility to protect and maintain the prevailing peace after the elections. Alhaji Bene said the EGLE would be the vanguard for the struggle for peace and protection of the democratic process.
