Prohibitions through the post

The Ghana Post & Telecommunications Corporation (P & T) wishes to inform the general public that under Article 41 of the Washington D.C. congress of 1989 of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the following items are not to be sent through the post. They are prohibited.

* currency notes including travellers cheques

* metal, including gold, diamonds, gold coins and jewellery

* dangerous articles such as explosives, corrosives,

inflammable or noxious substances

* narcotic drugs and drugs without authority note

* radio active materials

* live animals, birds, fish etc

* live trees and other plants

* cigarette without a warning notice

* pornographic films and literature

* butane gas, cigarette lighter

* arms and ammunition

* sharp instruments with protruding edges which if not

properly parcelled can cause harm to handlers

Customers who intend sending money through the post are advised

to purchase postal or money orders.

For further clarifications, customers are to contact counter

clerks at the various post offices.
