Project Citizen of NCCE successfully ended in Tamale

Tamale, Feb. 16, GNA - Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) has been adjudged the Northern Regional winners of this year's "Project Citizen", an annual learning and research event organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). Nine schools from Tamale Municipal competed in the event, which started in 2006. The participating schools engaged in academic policy competitions of ideas at each region.

The best regional schools would then meet for the national competition whiles prices would be won at each level. It is being sponsored by Hanns Seidel Foundation and Cowbell, producers of milk powder. It is aimed at exposing students to research and analytical methods, national issues and the constitution. The Director of Project Citizen, Mrs Fanny Kumah commended the students for the high level of intelligence displayed in their policy presentation and how they defended their policies as good ones to address the country's problems.

She said Project Citizen could be a special way of building and developing good future leaders with innovative ideas for the country saying "such ideas could be tapped for the promotion of the country's development agenda". Mrs Kumah urged more students to participate in future competitions of the Project Citizen to broaden their scope and horizon to make them well informed adding that education is not all about classroom work but all that help to mould a competent individual. The Northern Regional Director for NCCE Mr. Haruna Husheini Sulemana said NCCE would do its best despite constrains to educate citizens about their civic rights and responsibilities to ensure a coherent national building. He observed that the level of creativity displayed by the students indicates that the country had rich future leaders to build a better and prosperous nation.
