The people of Tefle Kpordiwlor in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region have been provided with portable water system by Project Maji.
The community with a population of four hundred inhabitants have been saved from the headache of relying on an old borehole with a new solar-powered drinking water by Project Maji.
Speaking at a short ceremony to commission the project, Ebenezer Charway, the Deputy Director at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources expressed appreciation to Project Maji for the gesture which he believes will solve the water problems in the village.
The Paramount Chief of Tefle Traditional Area, Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza VIII indicated his excitement with the project and thanked Project Maji for coming to the aid of the town.
"People here must manage the project it os for them but the traditional council will have to play a supervisory role.We must periodically inspect the project.Professionally I am an engineer so I know what is going on there. We would professionally inspect this project but they would have to manage it. It is very necessary water and toilet goes together ,we need them it is very necessary even Tefle East needs modern toilet because it is expanding".
Sunil Lalvani, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Project Maji declared that his outfit hopes to erect one million mechanized drinking water to deprived communities in the country.
He mentioned that the new water facility at Tefle Kpordiwlor will help curb some of the water-related disease some of the inhabitants have suffered in the past.
"With the support of our partners and individuals we hope to meet the target we have set by 2025 and I believe that this project is to bring an end to this problem”.
Project Maji was established in 2015 with an objective of providing providing portable water to more than one million people in rural Africa by 2025.
