Proposal to regulate Ga family heads in the offing

Accra, March 17, GNA - The Ga State Traditional Royal Heads Consultative Assembly (GSTRHCA) on Tuesday proposed that traditional rules and regulations in accordance with Ga Customs and tradition should be used to regulate the Ga head of family system.

The group said the new proposal would go a long way to eliminate the numerous disputes among family members and the chieftaincy conflicts in the Ga traditional area.

The Reverend Henry Lanquaye Go-Lightly, Head of Ga Mashie Area of GSTRHCA, was speaking at a public forum organized by the assembly to educate citizens in the area about the proposal to regulate the Ga Head of Family system.

It is also expected that copies of the new proposal would be sent to the Ga Traditional Council for its input before the completion of the final document.

Rev. Go-Lightly said family heads played crucial roles in the selection and installation chiefs in Ga traditional system. He called for unity among the people and the family heads in order to bring peace and development to the traditional area.

Rev. Go-Lightly said it was sad to note that the Ga State was in disarray and that there were no clear and identifiable leaders to put things in order.

Mr Isaac Nii Kwartei, Coordinating Director of GSTRHCA, also blamed the numerous chieftaincy and family conflicts in the Ga traditional area on lack of proper structures in terms of succession. He said the time had come for the families to resolve their internal conflicts and follow correct laid down procedures to ensure that the right persons were installed as chiefs.
