Tema, July 31, GNA - The National Fisheries Association of Ghana (NFAG) appealed to the Office of the Attorney - General to prosecute the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Official and all those connected with the mayhem at Dindon in the Kete-Krachi District in the Volta Region.

This is an endorsement of the recommendations of a fact finding committee set up by the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council, which was under the chairmanship of Alhaji Salifu Flika, Vice-Chairman of the Council.

The Committee investigated the burning down of 95 houses at Dindon on July 11, 2003.

NFAG Executives have sent the report, signed by its President, Flight Lieutenant. M. G. Tackey to the Minister of State in charge of Fisheries.

The report appealed to the government to go to the aid of the fishermen as quickly as possible by rehabilitating them and that efforts should be made to bring peace to the area.

It endorsed the suggestion that the Minister of Fisheries should contact the Minister for The Interior to see to the transfer of the NADMO Co-ordinator to a district where there is no fishing.

The report noted that the indiscretion of the NADMO District Co-ordinator in seizing fishing nets lying along the shore triggered the confrontation since the 10 people, whom he used to effect seizure, had been long standing rivals of the affected Dindon fishermen.

The 10 accomplices and other people, who attacked the village, live and fish downstream of the Dindon fishermen, therefore, anytime the floods started, the Dindon fishermen being at the upstream caught a more fish to the disadvantage of those downstream, hence the rivalry.
