Prosecution present first witness in robbery case

The prosecution in the case involving one Prince Baffour, an IT Technician accused of causing harm and robbing one Frank Agudey of his Nissan Almera taxi worth GH¢ 14,000.00 and an amount of GH¢ 440.00, presented its first witness.

The witness, also the complainant and driver of the taxi, Mr Frank Agudey said Prince and his accomplice hired his service from circle to Dansoman, on August 16, around 0200 hours.

He said on their way the two were discussing the Kwame Nkrumah Circle disaster of which he contributed by saying that he was also at the scene and also experience the fire but was lucky to have escaped.

During the process Prince gave the complainant’s his mobile number so that he would call them later in the day and drive them to a certain place.

He said on reaching an area in Dansoman called Sahara, one of his back tires became flat, so he stopped to change it with a spare one.

The witness told the court that after fixing the tire and he got back into the car, prince’s accomplice held him in the neck, and prince used a small knife to stab his hand and palm, resulting in his car key falling onto the street.

He said they drove the car away with his driving license and an amount of GH¢440.00.

Mr Agudey said after reporting the incident to the police, he remembered that he took the accused persons number and so asked his wife to call, but he did not answer.

He said they called again and after answering he mistook his wife for another lady and asked her to meet him at Neoplan station, when she arrives from Kumasi.

He told the court that he arranged with his wife and three of his friends and they all went to the station. They met him and with the help of his friends arrested him to the Adabraka police station.

The witness ended his evidence and the accused begun cross examination. But the case was adjourned to September 22, for continuation of cross examination.

Prince has pleaded not guilty to the charges but was remanded by the court.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector E. Afful said the complainant is a taxi driver who resides at Adabraka, while the accused person is an IT Technician and resides at Budumburam near Kasoa.

He said on August 16, the complainant was in charge of his taxi working as usual and at about 0200 hours, two men hired his service from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Dansoman, but did not specify the particular location they were going to at Dansoman.

The prosecution said on reaching an area in Dansoman called Sahara, one of his back tires became flat, so the complainant stopped to change it with a spare one.

Police Chief Inspector Afful said after fixing the tire and in his attempt to get back into his seat to continue with the passengers, he was prevented by the accused person and his accomplice.

The complainant managed to remove the car’s key from the ignition apartment, but the accused person used a small knife to stab his hand and palm, resulting in the key falling onto the street.

He told the court that the accused person picked the key, pushed the complainant out of the car, and drove the taxi away, with the complainant’s driving license and an amount of GH¢ 440.00.

The prosecution said after the incident, the complainant lodged a complaint at the police station and during investigations, Prince was arrested at his hideout in Accra, but his accomplice was on the run.

He said after the arrest of Prince, he took the police to Pacific Filling Station, Nyanyano road at Kasoa, where the taxi was retrieved and brought to the police station.
