Protect state property for your own sake - Aliu

Dalun, April 25, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has advised communities to always protect state property and it was when people realise the need to cherish and protect state proper that the government could continue to provide other social amenities. Alhaji Aliu gave the advice on Monday at Yapalsi, a community near Kumbungu in the Tolon/Kumbungu District, where some people had removed the bolts of three electricity towers.

It tumbled during a storm last Thursday and disrupted power supply from Tamale to the Dalun Water Plant, worsening the Tamale water problem.

The Vice President was on his way to Dalun to access the Tamale water supply problem and what government could do to facilitate supply of water to Tamale and surrounding communities. He expressed regret that people were destroying electricity pools at a time when the government was trying to extend power to every community in the country.

At Dalun, Vice President Mahama appealed to contractors working on the extension of the Tamale Water Project to speed up the work. Project Manager, Mr. Brian Spicer, said the work would be completed in two years time.

Last Thursday, power supply to the Tamale Water Works at Dalun was disrupted due to the collapse of three towers serving the 34.5kV distribution line from Tamale to Dalun during a severe rainstorm. The VRA had since installed wooden poles as a temporary measure. Areas like the Fuo SSNIT flats and parts of the Kalpohini Estates had not had water for the past eight months and the people depend on tankers and tractors to supply them with water.
