Protecting vulnerable persons in society remains a national priority – Chief of Staff

Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has stated that issues of gender equality, welfare of children and the vulnerable in society can no longer be overlooked.

Akosua Frema Osei-Opare stated that it is for this reason the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is committed to evaluating the plight of these persons so they can function productively in the society.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Gender Ministry review on the theme “Promoting Social Inclusion: Leave no Child Behind in Accra, she noted that this summit “is a testament to the fact that social development particularly the drive towards achieving a gender-just society with adequate protection for all vulnerable persons remains a shared goal and a national priority”.

According to her, promoting social inclusion requires the efforts of stakeholders by establishing the requisite institutional and policy frameworks towards monitoring and tracking progress as well as the deficiencies to ensure that, no child is left behind.

She noted that the “summit is to enable stakeholders track and identify policy and implementation gaps that will feed into their plans and programmes to make the pursuit of social inclusion very effective”.

In furtherance to the government’s mandate, the Chief of Staff noted that the Akufo-Addo led administration has adopted a broad and holistic approach to protecting vulnerable people in societies from abuse, hunger and exploitation.

Making reference to some achievements made by the NPP government to protect the vulnerable in society, Frema Osei-Opare mentioned the introduction of Free SHS, NABCO, One District, One Factory initiative among other developmental programmes so that, these persons can have access to education, employment, health care and recreation.

She said, “The formulation of the coordinated programme of social and economic development policy for 2017 to 2024 for instance has integrated the implementation of development programmes such as planting for food and jobs, NABCO, Free Senior High School, One District, One Factory, One Village, One Dam, and many others all aimed at building both economic and social resilience against vulnerabilities”.
