Provision of a generator stalls handing-over of Mankessim Clinic

Saltpond, Feb 1, GNA - Mankessim Health Centre, which was completed about three years ago, cannot not be handed over to the Ghana Health Service because the contractor could not provide an electricity generating plant for its use.

Mr Samuel Sosi, the Mfantseman District Director of Ghana Health Service, has appealed to the authorities that awarded the contract to impress upon the contractor to provide the generator that "I have been told was part of the contract agreement" without further delay. Speaking at the District Annual Performance Review Meeting at Saltpond, Mr Sosi said the delay in handing over the facility to GHS was causing inconveniences including financial burden to the directorate. "Every year we have to engage labourers to weed the place at our expense to prevent it from getting burnt by bushfire and private accommodation has to be rented for the Medical Assistant appointed to man the Health Centre."

When Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, the Mfantseman District Chief Executive, was contacted he confirmed the story and added that he had no direct control over the contractor since the Regional Co-ordinating Council at Cape Coast awarded the contract.
