Enchi (W/R), Dec 14, GNA - Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, the Western Regional Minister, has said the proposed housing scheme for public servants would take-off in February next year.

He announced this at a meeting with heads of departments at Enchi on Tuesday during a two-day tour of the Aowin-Suaman and the Wassa Amenfi West districts.

Mr Amoah said the housing scheme was among programmes of the government to motivate and improve the lot of public servants. He called on heads of departments to co-operate with District Chief executives to ensure smooth implementation of development programmes. Mr Amoah said the government had given the region special dispensation in the rural electrification programme to enable more communities to be provided with power.

Mr. Amoah said the government has decided to assist district assemblies to acquire graders for the regular maintenance of roads in their areas.

Mr. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, the Member of Parliament for the area, expressed concern about the way contractors execute projects in the area. He said some contractors delayed in the execution of projects while others abandoned them.

Mr. Kingsley Ofori-Asante, Aowin-Suaman District Chief Executive, said the major constraint facing the district was lack of office and residential accommodation for the decentralized departments. He said the departments are inadequately staffed as a result of refusal of people to accept transfer to the area. Later, the Regional Minister visited the site for the regional farmers housing scheme.

Mr. Samuel Donkor, the District Coordinating Director, said three houses were being constructed at the cost of 5.8 million cedis each. At the Brentu Secondary Technical School, Nana Kofi Adjei Mbeah, the Headmaster, said the GETFund was constructing a 12-unit classroom block to replace a dilapidated wooden one. Mr. Amoah also visited the Enchi Training College where Steven Cojar Limited had abandoned a girls'dormitory project.
