Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo has admonished President John Dramani Mahama and his government to set right and deterrent examples for Ghanaian public officials.

Addressing a gathering at the 50th Anniversary commemoration of the death of J B Danquah, in Accra, Nana Addo bemoaned the reckless expenditures and corruption that have since characterized the Mahama administration.

He advised the leadership of the Mahama administration to take a cue from the selfless life of the late J.B Danquah.

Giving account of the immense contributions of the late member of the "Big Six", Nana Addo noted that the late J.B Danquah vehemently spoke against the corruptible practices of the government, in his regime, and so, stood in honour of the country.

Nana Addo quoted J.B Danquah for addressing certain pertinent national issues during the Nkrumah regime on November 4, 1959 saying; "This country can only prove itself fit to govern itself if those primarily charged with that governance first set the supreme example of incorruptibility"

The NPP Flagbearer, therefore, believes the Mahama administration and appointees should show leadership by example by deterring his public servants from seeking wealth in government.

"We need the personal examples of our political leaders, especially the President of our Republic to demonstrate that public service is exactly that; public service. Those who seek wealth in public service have no place there. Their place is in the private sector where the making of money is a legitimate and necessary activity."

"If Danquah were alive today, President John Mahama would be receiving letters or more probably emails from him all the time and so will the Minister of Finance on how to the country's resources should be put to better use," he added.
