Public- spirited efforts to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS advocated

Odupong Ofaakor (C/R) March 21, GNA- Mr Godwill Acquah, Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has called for public spirited approach to tackle the spread of HIV/AIDS to safe Ghana from a bleak future. "The alarming figures about the HIV/AIDS in the Central Region demands that chiefs, opinion leaders and everybody must become an educator against HIV/AIDS," he said.

Mr Acquah made the call when he launched the Great World of God Church Community Base Organization (CBO) educational campaign and sensitisation programme on HIV/AIDS at Odupong Ofaakor near Kasoa at the weekend.

An HIV/AIDS Activist, Mr Charles Aikins appealed to relatives of People Living With HIV/AIDS to show compassion to them to in other to discourage the sufferers from spreading the pandemic out of frustration.

In his welcoming address, the Founder of the Church, Bishop Kwaku Addai said members of the CBO would be organizing an intensive campaign against the spreading of HIV/AIDS in 10 communities.

The beneficiary communities are Odupong, Ofaakor, Awutu- Papaase Number one, Awutu- Papaase Number Two, Awutu- Bawjiase, Adawukwaa, Awutu- Bentum, Awutu- Bontrase, Awutu- Adotom, Awutu- Mankomeda and Awutu- Fiankor. Bishop Addai said the Church was concerned with both the spiritual and physical needs of members.
