The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding an immediate timetable for Ghanaians in the face of “a patterned loadshedding over the last few months”.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 14, the leading opposition party says it is deceit on the part of the John Mahama-led government to claim that there is no loadshedding ongoing.
“Government will not have a time table/schedule published because that will amount to an admission of systematic load shedding /dumsor,” said the statement signed by Communications Director Nana Akomea.
“But Ghanaians have been suffering a patterned load shedding over the last few months.
“Government’s refusal to acknowledge it and publish a schedule has meant that consumers and industry cannot plan, thus imposing uncertainty on the Ghanaian consumer in the midst of Dumsor.”
The statement expressed concerned about the payment of a monthly $8.3 million to Ameri Power Plant for no gas as per an agreement with the Turkish company.
Nana Akomea pointed out that the recent inconsistencies as regards the recent reduction in electricity tariffs smacks of government’s incompetence.
“So between the Ministry For Power, the ECG, the Ministry For Finance and the President, who is telling the truth to Ghanaians?”
He justified the concern by stating that though his two appointees have called the reduction subsidies, President Mahama has denied it calling it a realignment of the billing system.
“The NPP calls on the government to listen to the cry of the industries and Ghanaians, and stop the inexplicable denial and immediately publish a time table /schedule for the ongoing Dumsor.”
