Punctuality Ghana Foundation, on Wednesday, called on the Korean Ambassador to Ghana as part of its ongoing public education awareness campaign, on punctuality and productivity, in Accra.
The visit was also for the ambassador to endorse the campaign, demonstrating the premium attached to the progress of developing countries, particularly, Ghana.
Miss Naa Meryeh Quaynor-Mettle, Project Coordinator, Punctuality Ghana, said the visit was to emphasize the need to emulate the South Korean success story, which was a model worth learning.
She said “South Korea is one of the largest emerging economies in the world, being the 12th largest. By this South Korea is home to many multinational corporations which compete against the best of the world”.
She said they would want to associate with the Korean success story, which was very inspiring, assuring him that the days of playing the ostrich as Ghanaians' when it came to time and productivity must be a thing of the past.
Miss Quaynor-Mettle said the mission for the campaign was to link punctuality with productivity and the ease of doing business, and that, “Our proposal to you is that you walk with us side by side on this lonely road of driving the public campaign on punctuality. We would be grateful to seek information on the South Korean education system and orientation,”
“We would also like to explore your centre for Korea studies for research and development, including entrepreneurship of the Korea people, which is another area of partnership that we would like our youth to take advantage of.”
She said there was the need to empower the youth to cultivate the nation builders mentality, especially to be time conscious and hardworking, since it was the only way forward towards development and economic independence.
Ambassador Kim Sungsoo, commended the concept of the foundation, saying other countries used their time very well but time management begins with education at the very early stages in the individuals live.
He said time was very important in all spheres of life from education to religion, among others, and should never be taken for granted.
“If you fail to use time properly it would lead to failure of transformation in the country. Punctuality and discipline does not only benefit the individual but the entire members of the society.”
He expressed the hope that it would help Ghanaians appreciate the importance of time and be punctual at all times.
The Ambassador and Mr Emmanuel Amarquaye, the Punctuality Crusader, later signed the punctuality endorsement pledge.
