Pupil appeals to government to train more ICT teachers

Keta, March 22, GNA - Miss Joana Daglah, a basic school pupil, has appealed to the government to come out with an ICT Instructors' Training Scheme to turn out more qualified personnel to handle the teaching of the=

subject in basic schools. She said many teachers handling the subject were themselves not literate in it and could hardly meet the standards required. Miss Daglah of Ketascho Junior High School was delivering an address= on behalf of children of the Volta Region at the region's version of presidential party for children at Keta.

She said the non-availability of computers in schools in addition to=

the absence of electricity in some schools were also challenges the government had to address to enhance ICT education and learning generally= .. Miss Daglah called for a national education policy that would transc= end the tenure of governments to offset frequent policy changes that had been=

obstructing the focus of pupils and the country. Miss Daglah also called for the elimination of child labour, child abuse and trafficking of children.

Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, assured the childr= en that the government would maintain its policy of going by international conventions and national legislations on the child. He said the government was undertaking several educational infrastructure projects across the country, distributing textbooks and uniforms and would continue to train and retain qualified teachers to ens= ure that children got quality education. Mr Amenowode advised the children to remain disciplined and learn ha= rd to meet their aspirations in life to take up positions as future leaders of the country.
