The 120 pupils of the Mamakrom Local Authority Primary School, near Nsawam have stopped schooling while the remaining 30 said they were not going to return to the classroom after the Christmas holidays because they did not have teachers.
Opanin Isaac Ntow Ahiwireng, Chairman of the school's Management Committee, announced this when the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayensuano Constituency, Godfred Okyere, visited the area to interact with the people.
Opanin Ntow said for the past three years only two teachers have been posted to the school but one of them died. The committee requested the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide more teachers for the school but to no avail.
Opanin Ntow said some parents have withdrawn their children from school to assist them on their farms because of the development. As part of efforts to attract teachers, the people have rehabilitated the primary school block and renovated a house to accommodate teachers posted to the school free of charge.
The MP expressed concern about the issue and promised to take up the matter with the GES.
