Saltpond, Jan. 25, GNA - The Mfantseman District Chief Executive, Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, has directed that pupils and those above 60 years old should be exempted from paying for the use of public toilets. He gave the order following an appeal by Mr. Isaac Bart-Addison, District Director of Education, for exemption of school children.

Speaking at a get-together organised by the DCE for Heads of Departments at Saltpond, Mr. Bart-Addison, partly attributed the sanitation problem in towns and cities to inability of children to pay to "attend to nature's call" and the closing of public toilets at night. Mr. Quainoo-Arthur called on National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) not to concentrate on political education alone but to launch a programme on sanitation and other issues to enhance living conditions.

The announced plans to facelift Saltpond and Mankessim to befit their status as the district capital and the business centre respectively.

He appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to consider the two towns for urban status to enhance development.

The DCE asked the Heads of Departments to ensure discipline by setting good examples for their subordinates. Mr. Alfred Ahumah, District Coordinating Director, called for a collaborated effort to move the district forward and appealed to them to submit their annual budgets and reports on time.
