Officials of the GES interacted with the pupils during their visit
District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, on Tuesday led a delegation to interact with fresh pupils at the Asuogyaman District schools as they marked "My First Day At School".
The initiative is an enrolment-drive policy started in 2017 to let the children feel welcomed, encourage them to come to school and also to encourage other pupils to attend school.
The delegation, which included Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman and Mrs. Theodora Kutorkor Entee, District Director of Education (DDE) and some circuit supervisors distributed gifts including exercise books, erasers, pencils and some refreshment to the kindergarten and class one pupils.
The teams visited various schools in the seven circuits of the district including Apegesu circuit, Akosombo circuit ‘A’, Akosombo Circuit ‘B’, Frankadua/Asikuma, Senchi Circuit, Gyerkiti Circuit and Anum-Boso Circuit.
Some schools visited included Adome DA Basic School, Atimpoku Benkum L/A Basic School, New Senchi RC Basic School, New Akrade Presby Primary, South Senchi D/A Basic School, among others.
The DCE and DDE who took turns to address the pupils urged them to appreciate the school's values and maintain their interest in education by presenting themselves at school every day.
Mrs. Theodora Kutorkor Entee who expressed satisfaction at the exercise said the visit afforded the team the opportunity to encourage new pupils to the KG and class one pupils to appreciate the essence of being in school as well as show love, care and concern to the children.
The visit, aside these, she stated also afforded her the opportunity to check enrollment at the various schools, check attendance of pupils and teachers on the first day, the state of furnitures at the schools, pupils uniforms as well as identify other challenges possibly facing the schools, pupils and teachers.
The Education Director observed that some schools were not up to their respective numbers however singled out the Mpakadan Presby Primary school where all pupils had reported for school on the first day.
Applauding the policy, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum though content with the outcome of the visit expressed regret at reported cases of teenage pregnancy in some schools visited.
While the presence of the visiting officials drew excitement from the pupils, the officials however observed both low and high turnout at some schools, a situation the Assembly Chief attributed to the first day phenomenon.
Madam Elizabeth Dugbartey, Senior High School Coordinator for the Asuogyaman District and a member of the visiting officials in interacting with the pupils, treated them to various rhymes and poems. The KG pupils when asked by Madam Dugbartey on the kind of work they aspired to do in future expressed the desire to work as doctors, pilots, carpenters, dressmakers, among others.
Mr. Samuel Afeku, circuit supervisor for Senchi Circuit led the team of education officials on the exercise to schools in his circuit which also included Mr. AC Mensah who is in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, (TVET).
