Pupils in Old Tafo affected by curfew

Final year pupils in various Junior High Schools in Old Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are seriously affected by the curfew imposed on the community.

A curfew was imposed on the Tafo Community over skirmishes between Muslim youth and traditional leaders almost two months ago.

Teachers complained that they have been forced to stop organising extra evening classes for the students who are preparing to write their Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in June due to the curfew.

A teacher who spoke to Ultimate News’ Isaac Badiako Justice on anonymity noted that the students have a lot to catch up before the BECE.

He expressed worry that the curfew could adversely affect the results of the final year pupils if the curfew is not lifted as they are not able to complete the scheduled syllabus.

Some residents also complained that security personnel on the ground are unreasonably unyielding, saying their actions are violations to their rights.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister John Alexander Ackon, who spoke on the Ultimate Breakfast show hosted by Prince Minkah yesterday Tuesday, explained that the curfew will be lifted only when the tension between the traditional leaders in Tafo is resolved.
