Former Rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Administration Professor Stephen Adei has stated that the quality of leadership in the country, especially among politicians is declining.

According to the outspoken professor, the trend is dangerous to the progress of the country if it is not checked.

“I think that the heightened interest of Ghanaians in leadership and development of Ghana today...has arisen as a result of many factors many of which are not complimentary. There is a nagging feeling that in many areas of our national life, the quality of leadership is declining.

“There is a feeling that the quality of national leadership is declining especially with regard to political leadership and public service leadership, even there is a question mark at community leadership”.

Prof. Adei made the comments on Thursday during the 1st Founder's Day Lecture organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering of All Nations University College in Koforidua under the theme: ‘Celebrating Our Leaders’.

He, however, said Ghana has not suffered extreme leadership failure as compared to some African countries.

Prof. Adei who was speaking under the topic; “Leadership is the Key to Development" also stated that the Electoral Commission must put in place stringent mechanisms to ensure that the November 7 election is not rigged and held in a fair and transparent manner.
