President Nana Akufo-Addo has hailed the election of Ghanaian career diplomat, Ambassador Kwesi Quartey as Vice Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commission at the ongoing 28th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
“Great news for Ghana,” the President tweeted at 15:10 hrs GMT.
His candidature for the top AU job was strongly backed by President Nana Akufo Addo who keenly campaigned for his election.
He was elected as the new Vice Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commission today at the ongoing 28th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He is the immediate past Secretary to President John Dramani Mahama and before then a deputy Foreign Affairs Minister.
Ambassador Quartey who is a lawyer by profession was also ambassador to UN, AU, Cuba and Belgium.
