Health minister Courage Quashigah had a rude shock at the Elmina Beach Resort on Tuesday when his laptop with vital information was stolen at the hotel.

The minister was at the hotel to attend a two-day forum for health providers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The forum was meant to educate the service providers on the care of insured clients, identifying their concerns, bottlenecks and challenges and agree on the way forward.

Obviously shaken by the event, Major Quashigah told a conference of health sector managers meeting at the hotel that he had to address the participants in a hurriedly prepared speech from his memory because of the theft.

He said he wished he could deliver his prepared address, which he said contained a lot of important issues on the forum.

General Manager of the Elmina Beach Resort, Victor McCarthy confirmed the theft but said he was unable to comment on it because he had reported it to the head office in Accra for further action.

He said a report has also been made to the Elmina Police.

Some of the participants the press spoke to expressed indignation about comments of the manager as to why the incident should be investigated by the head office even though it happened at the resort at Elmina.

Before the meeting, security personnel at the hotel had taken inventory of laptops at the conference centre requesting participants who would be carrying their gadgets during break to notify them.
