The queen mother of Bonwire in the Ashanti Region, Nana Nyarko Frimpomaa II, has expressed concern over her exclusion from the upcoming Bonwire Kente Festival.
She has also accused the chief of the area, Nana Bobie Ansah II, of launching the festival without her knowledge, as reported by citinewsroom.com.
Addressing journalists, Nana Nyarko Frimpomaa II condemned the actions of the chief, describing it as unfair.
She stressed the importance of the Kente Festival and its impact in the community.
Meanwhile, the report added that all attempts to get the reaction of Nana Bobie Ansah II has proved futile.
Bonwire has been referred to as the ‘home’ of kente weaving for centuries and, since 1998, the chiefs and people have set a week aside to celebrate the cultural significance of the gorgeous fabric, which has enormous demand across the world.
The Chief of Bonwire, Nana Bobie Ansah II, launched the festival to mark the origin of the kente cloth, which has been in existence for over 300 years.
It is an annual harvest celebration held by the chiefs and people of Bonwire, located in the Ejisu-Juaben District in the Ashanti Region.
During the festival, the chiefs and residents are adorned in various intricate designs of the cloth, showcasing the town's long-standing tradition of kente-weaving.
