Queenmother urges HIV/AIDS test before marriage

Techiman (B/A), Nov. 24, GNA - Nana Afia Abrafi Kotoo, Queenmother of Techiman Traditional Area, has advised parents to allow their children to undergo HIV/AIDS test before contracting marriages.

She said this would ensure that couples entered into marriages with confidence and without any suspicion of each other.

Nana Abrafi Kotoo gave the advice at the first open day of Kramo Presbyterian Junior Secondary School at Techiman. It was celebrated under the theme: "Quality Education - the role of the Community."

The celebration was also to raise funds towards the construction of a 10 million cedi library for the school.

Nana Abrafi Kotoo advised the girls to remain chaste and avoid acts that could make them to contract the fast spreading pandemic.

She said the Techiman market was established to help women to support their husbands in the education of their children and advised women traders to desist from enriching their wardrobes with clothing and jewellery to the neglect of this objective.

Madam Cordelia Mary Boakye-Yiadom, Techiman District Director of Education, speaking on "Parents, their responsibility in Education", underscored the need for parents to enrol their children in schools, saying, teachers in the district were more than the pupils.

She said it was the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, pupils, communities and district Assemblies to ensure that education became effective and affordable.

She advised the girls to avoid bad peer groups and unscrupulous adult men and take their education seriously to be able to occupy responsible positions in future.

Mr Appau Karikari, Techiman central schools circuit supervisor asked parents to pay regular visits to the schools to monitor the progress of their children and to provide their basic needs.

Deserving teachers and students were honoured and 2.1 million cedis was raised in an appeal for funds towards the library project.
