REGSEC discusses shooting incident in Tuobodom

Sunyani (B/A), Oct. 8, GNA - The Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Wednesday met in Sunyani to discuss the shooting incident which occurred in Tuobodom on Tuesday in which five persons sustained gun shot wounds.

Police Superintendent Charles Domanbam, Regional Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency on phone that the council had sent a delegation to the town to meet the two factions in the chieftaincy dispute. He said they would also meet Oseadeeyo Ameyaw Akumfi 1V, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, in the search for total peace in the area. Four of the injured, Stephen Afrifa, 17, Yaw Frempa, 38, Kwame Ameyaw, 36, Peter Assah, 45, were treated and discharged but Kwaku Takyi, 36, whose condition was critical as he was shot in the head had been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Supt. Domanbam said the celebration of the Forjour Kese Yam festival, which triggered the shooting incident, had been suspended to avoid further clash, adding, 132 police personnel led by the Techiman Municipal Commander had been mobilized in the town.

The crime officer urged the people to remain calm and give chance to the police to have thorough investigations into the matter. On Tuesday during the celebration of the festival of the chiefs and people of Tuobodom, one faction in the dispute case blocked the Techiman-Kintampo road that runs through the town with stones and wood to prevent the other faction from proceeding to the celebration grounds. Supt Domanbam said members of a brass band that was leading the people to the grounds attempted to clear the road but the other faction, armed with guns and other offensive weapons and hiding in the bush opened fire indiscriminately injuring the five. He said the timely arrival and intervention of security personnel saved the situation adding that the town is now calm but no arrests had been made.
