A twenty four-year-old radio presenter, George Adiaku Holali, popularly known as Edem, who works with Krush FM, a Koforidua based local radio station has been attacked and killed by an unknown assailant.

His body was found hanged with his long-sleeve shirt in an uncompleted building at Bonya in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region.

It is not clear the motive for the wicked act, but speculations abound that he was murdered over a love-turned-sour affair by an assassin who is soaked in deep jealousy over an apprentice hairdresser.

The body of the journalist has since been deposited at the Koforidua Government Hospital for autopsy.

According to the best friend known as Telibo, Edem visited him on Sunday at around 10am with the picture of the girlfriend of the deceased, Akete, an apprentice hairdresser, complaining bitterly about his girlfriend who has broken up with him and now dating a new guy after sponsoring the girlfriend to acquire hairdressing skills to earn a living.

“The deceased has a 2-year-old boy with the girlfriend.” According to the friend of the deceased, Edem left the house at around 5pm and went to his girlfriend’s shop at Gallaway Junction in Koforidua, but was attacked by a guy believed to be a close ally of the new boyfriend of the girl.

Edem returned to the house of his friend with a torn dress with blood stains and narrated his ordeal to his friend. The friend told the paper that, the deceased after taking some alcohol, took the picture of his girlfriend at around 8pm with a lighted candle and went out to sit in the darkness at a school premise and cried over the girlfriend’s picture.

Sources close to the deceased further added that the assailants upon seeing Edem, crying with a candle and picture of the girl, thought he was chanting over her picture and attacked him again. The assailant then took off Edem’s long-sleeve shirt and allegedly hanged him half naked in an uncompleted building, near Bonya Presby School in Koforidua, and wrote on the floor with a stick an inscription which read, “He was killed because of Akete.”

The body was discovered the following day and the case subsequently reported to the police.

The Public Relation Officer of the Easter Regional Police Command, ASP Nketia Yeboa, confirmed the story, but explained that, the police are treating the case as suicide for now until full investigations are completed. ASP Nketia said, the girlfriend of the deceased has been invited to assist in investigations.
