The shower of rains in Kumasi has exposed the poor pitch at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

The stadium which was billed to host the 2019 President’s Cup between Asante Kotoko versus Hearts of Oak never lived up to expectation as the game had to be called off due to the bad nature of the turf.

Governments over the years have failed to renovate the facility and hold a proper maintenance culture of the stadium which last renovated for the 2008 African Cup of Nations hosted in Ghana.

The game between Kotoko and Hearts barely lasted for 10 minutes before the referees and match commissioner came to realization to make a firm decision to stop the game due to the bad state the rains has left the pitch in.

Although some Hearts technical men wanted the game to proceed the Porcupines were unwilling because it could endanger their player's condition since they are participating in the CAF Champions League.

This is not the first time a game at the Baba Yara Stadium has had to be called off due to some shower of rains. The stadium also suffered embarrassment from CAF as the confederation deem the stadium not fit for hosting any CAF sanctioned match.

The situation saw a minor facelift which included replacing some destroyed seats as well as patching of the grass which had withered.

The Baba Yara Stadium was not included in governments stadium renovations which happened last year at the Accra Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Stadium for the Women's AFCON hosted by Ghana
