Nyankpala (N/R), April 16, GNA - A severe rainstorm on Saturday evening hit the Nyankpala Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) ripping off the roofs of two lecture halls and the Administration block.

This led to the destruction of furniture, documents, computers storing students' examination data and disrupted electricity supply to the campus.

Speaking to the GNA at Nyankpala, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Thomas Bayorbor said, "The rainstorm has set the campus years backwards since resources needed to improve infrastructure are already lacking".

He said that efforts would be made to retrieve records on students and accounts, as well as research work to ensure smooth academic work and administrative procedures.

Dr Bayorbor appealed to the Tolon/Kumbungu District Assembly, benevolent organisations and the international donor community to assist the University to rehabilitate the facilities that had been destroyed. The storm also destroyed five houses and shops at the town with the displaced persons mostly workers putting up with friends and relatives. Madam Talata Kumbeymi, one of the victims, appealed for assistance to enable her to re-roof her room before the rains set in.
