Nobewam (Ash), Feb 20, GNA - More than 60 family units have been rendered homeless when a severe rainstorm that hit Nobewam, a small farming community in the Ejisu-Juaben district destroyed their houses. The displaced families have been compelled to put up with other residents of the town resulting in a situation in which more than 14 people live in one room.

Mr Samuel Darko, assemblyman for the area, who spoke to the GNA, said the rainstorm which occurred in the evening of January 29, this year, lasted for five hours and left in its trail 60 destroyed houses as well as school building and other mud structures. He said a number of people who received minor injuries were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The assemblyman said farming and school activities have come to a halt with final-year students in schools studying in groups under trees. Mr Darko therefore appealed to the government to come to the aid of the victims as soon as possible by supplying them with building materials for re-settlement.
