A private legal practitioner, Yaw Boafo has observed with scorn the habitual conduct of former Presidents John Dramani Mahama and Jerry John Rawlings on political platforms and said it is tantamount to embarrassment.

He observed that both are not conducting themselves as statesmen considering the kind of comments they make at the least opportunity and therefore endorse propositions they should be barred from active partisan politics henceforth.

On Kumasi-based Ultimate Fm and hosted by Lantam Papanko, the astute lawyer wondered why the two who are supposed to be role models will throw caution to the wind each time they are given the platform, will engage in some ‘undesirable’ type of politicking.

His comments were in reaction to comments made by Mr Mahama far away in London about members of inky fraternity as well as the clergy indicating they have shut their ears and eyes to current happenings in the country which is a direct opposite of what they did under his watch.

‘I am saying this because of the behaviour of NDC past Presidents, there should a Constitutional Amendment that bars past presidents from engaging in partisan politics like we have done to chiefs. Because the two living past NDC Presidents don’t seem to hold the post with decorum you expect from Presidents,’ he observed.

According to him, the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor faced fierce criticisms from civil society groups, the media and opposition but he was resolute and never heard publicly lamenting even after leaving office wondering why the two ‘ex NDC Presidents’ have taken their bitterness to another level.

‘Look at the fanatic activities by civil society groups during former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s era and that of former President Mahama… The Commission for Joint Action (CJA), Center for Democratic Development (CDD) and the rest accused President Kufuor of appointing only Asantes…Talking about the person who was treated with kid gloves in the fourth Republic must be ex-President John Mahama,’ he said.
