Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings has now been paid his pension from January to the end of July. A letter signed by the Deputy Controller and Accountant General, Mr. E.A. Ofusuhene and addressed to the Chief of staff said “This is to inform you that ex-President Rawlings was on military pension up to February 2001.” Amounts accruing form his military pension has been paid into his Ghana Commercial Bank account at Burma Camp.
It further added that “since March 2001, his monthly pension has been re-computed based on the Greenstreet report.” The Greenstreet report is the recommendation of a committee set up by the previous government to discuss ex-gratia awards for ex-Presidents of Ghana.
The letter to the Chief of Staff said in March, this year, the ex-President advised the department to pay his monthly pension as former President into his account at CAL Merchant Bank and the request has been complied with. The “Ghanaian Chronicle” newspaper on Monday, reported that Flt. Lt. Rawlings has not received his gratuity as ex-President since he left office on January 7, this year.
It further reported that two of his four members of staff had also not received their salaries over the same period. The other two were on secondment from the Ghana Police Service and were therefore drawing their salaries from the service.
