Former President, Jerry Rawlings, last Sunday May 9, once again took centre stage and pulled the rug from under the feet of NDC presidential candidate, Prof John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, at one of the Asanteman Adae Kese festival during the grand durbar of chiefs held at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
This came to light when media persons saw Prof. Mills leaving the scene though the metal gate that led to the VIP lounge, and unceremoniously departed without a word to anyone, and also without greeting the Asantehene who had invited him and other dignitaries to celebrate this importation occasion with Asanteman. All other parting dignitaries were announced publicly and thanked for attending the ceremony.
Investigations revealed that, the NDC Flagbearer was asked to leave by his former boss and founder of their party, Mr. Rawlings, shortly before the NDC entourage was expected to go and greet the Asantehene.
After Rawlings had greeted the king, he greeted those on the dais and saluted President Kufuor. He also asked his daughter, a UK-trained medical doctor to go and greet the President. Mr. Victor Smith, special assistance to the former president noted that the sudden departure of Prof. Mills was planned because he had already informed the Asantehene that he would leave the durbar ground earlier. It was found out that Atta Mills? arrival at the stadium was not acknowledged with wild cheers, as opposed to the former president Rawlings who received wild applause.
