Rawlings Pain

Founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings has in an atypical manner commented on the suspension of “one of the most truthful, forceful, logically minded personalities of integrity” his spokesperson, Kofi Adams from the party, accusing the Mills administration and NDC leadership of treating him (Adams) like an outcast just "to serve a parochial and unpatriotic interest".

Last Thursday, the NDCs National Executive Committee (NEC) at a crunch meeting, temporarily ousted Kofi Adams from the party for three months for allegedly scheming with the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a dye-in-the-wool NPP activist, to scuttle the second term bid of NDC flagbearer President John Evans Atta Mills.

This followed the recording of a private conversation he is alleged to have had with Gabby, the contents of which have since been made public.

A Deputy General Secretary of the party, Kofi Adams, was also referred to the Disciplinary Committee (DC) of the party for further action whiles he serves his suspension.

NDC Chief Scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who disclosed to OkayFM, explained that the Disciplinary Committee had been mandated to give a fair hearing to Mr Adams, establish the veracity or otherwise of the recording and advise the NEC appropriately.

He was emphatic that until the disciplinary committee submits its report on the case, Kofi Adams is “a free agent” and not a member of the NDC, adding that he (Kofi Adams) can no longer exercise any rights as an NDC member until the committee comes out with its report.

But in a pithy statement punctuated with epigrams, Mr Rawlings slammed the Mills’ administration and the NDC leadership for treating Kofi Adams as an “outcast”. To him, the Mills administration is “fast speeding the country into an abyss” and called on all as Easter approaches, to “seek God’s guidance in honest, unpretentious prayer of supplication”.

“When you find yourself in an unintended pit or hole the wise thing to do is to stop digging. It does not appear the Mills government is able to see the growing darkness around them…They have lost so much moral high ground and now one of the most truthful, forceful, logically minded personalities of integrity in the party leadership is being treated like an outcast to serve a parochial and unpatriotic interest, the statement said.

Below is the statement issued from the Office of the Former President

“When you find yourself in an unintended pit or hole the wise thing to do is to stop digging. It does not appear the Mills government is able to see the growing darkness around them.

They have lost so much moral high ground and now one of the most truthful, forceful, logically minded personalities of integrity in the party leadership is being treated like an outcast to serve a parochial and unpatriotic interest.

Do we need any other evidence to demonstrate that the Mills government has no intention of profiting from the truth?

Ghana needs a real and true awakening. The government is fast speeding the country into an abyss and as Easter draws near let us seek God’s guidance in honest, unpretentious prayer of supplication.”
