'Rawlings’ criticisms of Mills was a calculated agenda'

The office of former President Rawlings says the former leader never openly criticized the late President Mills and his government during the early days of President Mills' reign.

Mr. Rawlings was on countless occasions heard slamming the late President Mills and his administration over issues on governance and corruption.

But aide to the former president said the concerns of his boss were captured in private meetings with party officials.

Kofi Adams told XYZ BREAKFAST SHOW Monday that “I don’t think that the former president was critical of the late President, the very first time president Rawlings had cause to comment about what was happening was when he spoke to party executives who had called on him at his residence to thank him for the role he played in the party’s victory”.

“He didn’t call for that function or invite the media, so who ever recorded that frank discussion he was having with party executives is the person we should be looking out for because he shared his thoughts with his party people and it went out there” he noted.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary again cited another incident where the Greater Accra regional branch of the party called on Mr Rawlings to share some concerns which he claimed was also secretly recorded for the media.

“This is was when the term greedy bastards came up, that was also not an open meeting but somebody found a way of recording that discussion and put it out there.

“So you don’t do your own mischievous things and turn round and make it look like that was the person discussing the issues in public”.

“I only hope that a day will come when our media will decide to do serious research into issues and not just follow the political thoughts and presentation of persons who set a certain agenda”.
