The one-time military leader and democratically elected president of Ghana under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) is well-known for his no-nonsense characteristics which have earned him the title "boomer" among some Ghanaians.
And it is almost accurate to say that, no ill element would try messing with the rtd Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings for the fear of getting a beat down for the vibrant former president.
But that is not reflected in the account of one Andy Herring is who a complete doppelganger of Jerry Rawlings.
Narrating their story to YEN.com.gh, Andy's wife, Carol Herring, recounted how they had been duped several times at gas filling stations.
According to her account, "...the attendant [at the gas station] will take the 50 cedis for gas [but] pump 25 or less, clear the display and tell you it's finished...".
Carol noted that this had happened to them twice on two different occasions with two different friends of hers.
"They always stop any car we are riding in any time they see us. Usually they want money from the driver", Carol also complained about how police checkpoints seemed to be specifically targeting she and her husband.
"The police do not stop cars that literally run us off the road when we are on the motor bike", she added.
The most striking feature about her husband was his close resemblence to a former president of Ghana, John Jerry Rawlings.
With the fear and respect that Jerry Rawlings strikes in Ghanaians, we find it odd that any one would try to act ill towards such a close lookalike of his.
