Ashanti regional Communications Director for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Osei Kofi Acquah is shocked President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for Special Prosecutor, Martin A. B.K Amidu settled on former President Jerry John Rawlings as his referee.

He disclosed that the former President is a bad example and therefore saw no need for Mr Amidu to have relied on such a person as his referee considering the havoc he wreaked the economy of Ghana under his tenure.

According to him, it was under the rule of Rawlings that most state factories were sold to private individuals yet Mr Amidu sees such a person as having contributed significantly in ending corruption.

”I’m shocked the special prosecutor nominee chose former President Rawlings as one of his referees when he needed people to referee him” Osei Kofi Acquah on told Kwame Kwame Adinkrah on Kumasi-based Abusua Fm.

”How can you choose someone who sold factories in the country during the PNDC era as your referee as someone who has been appointed to fight against corruption in the country”. He quizzed.

Martin Amidu on Tuesday told the Appointments Committee of Parliament that he listed former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as his Referee on his Curriculum Vitae because the former President brought him into politics and mentored him.

Responding to questions from members of the Appointments Committee, Martin Amidu said “Rawlings brought me into politics… It was Rawlings who fought to reduced corruption drastically in this country. He fought corruption and he brought me into politics for the first time”.

“Rawlings is the one who brought me into politics and if anyone would know me better, then it must be him…despite what anybody says about him, he reduced corruption to the barest minimum.”

Mr Amidu also expressed his profound happiness and appreciation to the former President for issuing a public statement in support of his (Martin Amidu’s) nomination as Special Prosecutor.
