Rawlings will continue to torture Ghana until his death - NPP Guru

The verbal abuse being poured on former President Jerry John Rawlings seems to continue as Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described him as a burden on the country.

“Unfortunately, he’s been thrust on us as a physical and psychological torture until his maker calls him and that is my view” he said.

The ex-President became the topic of discussion again after he accused former President John Agyekum Kufuor of monopolizing corruption.

During an interview with journalists after signing the book of condolence opened at the residence of the South African High Commissioner in Ghana in honour of the memory of the late South African President, Nelson Mandela; Rawlings said Kufuor superintended over corruption in his administration to the extent that America had to send CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) to warn him (Prez Kufuor).

Quoting from 1 Corinthians 13:11 (when I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me), Kwamena Duncan alluded that Mr Rawlings at his age should not be making such comments but unfortunately ‘that is not the case’.

According to him, even though former President Rawlings has incessantly criticized ex-President Kufuor, it will not destroy his (Kufuor) reputation.

“Who God has blessed no one can curse or destroy; jealousy and pettiness will never destroy you (Kufuor) because God used you to bless this country. President Kufuor met Ghana in a HIPC stage after Rawlings stayed in government for 19 years. President Kufuor’s eight years was able to raise the country to a lower middle income country. The more he (Rawlings) continues to remain petty and jealous, the more the people of this country continue to love you (Kufuor)".

However, Sam George, a member of the communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the statement made by Kwamena Duncan as unfortunate. According to him, the former President has the right to make those comments.
